To access the databases listed below please ask for the list of usernames and passwords from one of the high school library staff members.

These are the databases we subscribe to at Cambridge Jr./Sr. High School:

"Provided by the New York State Library, NOVEL is an online virtual library connecting New Yorkers to 21st century information via local libraries statewide. NOVEL is currently supported with temporary federal Library Services and Technology Act funds. New Century Libraries is an important statewide funding initiative currently before the Legislature that proposes permanent state funding for NOVEL."

General Reference

  • Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia- This database provides over 25,000 encyclopedia entries covering a variety of subject areas.

  • Gale Virtual Reference Library New- This is a databases of encyclopedias, almanacs, and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research.

  • Grolier Online Features Encyclopedia Americana, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, and The New Book of Knowledge, and Lands and People. 

  • Student Resource Center-fully integrated database containing thousands of curriculum-targeted primary documents, biographies, topical essays, background information, critical analyses, full-text coverage of over 300 magazines, newspapers, over 20,000 photographs and illustrations, and more than 8 hours of audio and video clips. Restricted to the middle school market.

  • Noodletools-New a citation generator!
     

Magazines and Newspapers

  • Custom Newspapers- Search a collection of 150 newspapers, both national and international.

  • National Newspaper Index - National Newspaper Index provides quick access to the indexing of American's top five newspapers in one search.  The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Christian Science Monitor, Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post.

  • New York State Newspapers- Search this database of ten major newspapers published in the state of New York, including the New York Times and the New York Post.

  • EBSCO Databases -(MasterFile, Topic Search,  Primary Search,and Kids Search) Masterfile:  Allows access to information on a broad range of topics including general interest, business, health, and multi-cultural.   Topic Search: A current events/social issues database. Primary Search via Searchasaurus: A database designed for elementary students with information on a wide range of general topics. Kids Search is a database designed for students in k-8.  It allows you to search Primary Search,  Topic Search, Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, and EBSCO Animals at the same time.

  • ELibrary- Offers more than 1500 full-text sources with a fun and easy-to-use search interface.  Includes magazines, newspapers, books, television/radio transcripts, maps, pictures and audio/visual clips.

  • Junior Edition- Formely SuperTOM Junior, this periodical database is designed for students in middle school, with magazines, newspapers, and reference books for information on current events, the arts, science, popular culture, health, people, government, history, sports, and more.

  • ProQuest Professional Collection-A comprehensive research collection of more than 300 magazines and journals for K-12 professional development and continuing education.

English Language Arts Resources

  • Contemporary Authors- Provides complete biographical and bibliographical information and references on more than 120,000 U.S.  and international authors.

  • Contemporary Literary Criticism An extensive collection of critical essays on contemporary authors.

  • MagillOnLiterature Plus- Includes MagillOnAuthors which offers approximately 3,000 articles and 450 images and MagillOnLiterature which is the definitive online source for editorially reviewed critical analyses.

  • Novelist- looking for a good book to read, check out this database.

  • Student Resource Center- fully integrated database containing thousands of curriculum-targeted primary documents, biographies, topical essays, background information, critical analyses, full-text coverage of over 300 magazines, newspapers, over 20,000 photographs and illustrations, and more than 8 hours of audio and video clips. Restricted to the middle school market.

  • Teaching Books -Engaging author programs and k-12 book resources online anytime.

  • Twayne Authors Series: Twayne World, US, and English Authors each contain the full-text of 200 frequently used Twayne Literary Masters.

Science and Health Resources

  • EBSCO Animals- Provides in-dept information on a variety of topics relating to animals.

  • General Science Collection- this database offers full text coverage for more than sixty of the most popular science publications. 

  • Health Reference Center- A full-text, multi-source database providing single-search access to the wide variety of health information sources in HRC plus 40 full-text nursing and health journals.

  • Health and Wellness Resource Center and Alternative Health Module A full-text multi-source database on a wide variety of health related topics.

  • SIRS Researcher -is a general reference database containing full-text articles exploring social, scientific, health, historic, economic, political and global issues.  Additional features include: Focus on Terrorism, Leading Issues, SIRS Newest, and Today's News

Social Studies Resources

  • ABC-CLIO American History-Covers the people, places, events, trends, statistics, news, attractions, politics, culture, environment, government, and history of all fifty states.
  • ABC-Clio American Government- Provides comprehensive curriculum-based reference and research materials on the workings and history of the United States Government.
  • ABC-CLIO World History -Ancient
  • ABC-CLIO World History Modern- Covers those historic events that shaped today's society from the 1500s to the present.
  • Business and Company ASAP- A fully integrated resource bringing together company profiles, brand information, ranking, investment reports, company histories, chronologies, and periodicals.
  • Facts.com- Brings together complete content from the Facts on File World News Digest since 1980and selected content from six other core reference databases to answer questions about events, issues, statistics and people of the last twenty years.
  • Lands and People- A resource on countries, cultures, and current events.
  • Opposing Viewpoints-Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center draws on the acclaimed social issues series published by Greenhaven Press, as well as core reference content from other Gale and Macmillan Reference USA sources to provide a complete one-stop source for information on social issues. Access viewpoint articles, topic overviews, statistics, primary documents, links to websites, and full-text magazine and newspaper articles.

Foreign Language

  • EBSCOhost Espanol- This includes the EBSCOhost databases (Masterfile, Topic Search, and Primary Search, EBSCO Animals, and Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia  using a Spanish interface.

  • Infrome- Una coleccion de revistas hespanicas con textos completos.  Abarca negocios, salud, tecnologia, cultura, temas de actualidas y otras materias.
