    UPK Families,

During this unprecedented time we have been working diligently with Cambridge school to determine the reopening plans for the CEO UPK program at Cambridge Elementary School.  There are going to be many changes this year and we ask for your flexibility and understanding throughout the year.  After reading this letter if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact the school or emily.jenkins@cambridgecsd.org.  We are asking that any parent wanting to opt their child out of the UPK program to please contact the school no later than Monday 8/24.

The UPK will be adopting a hybrid model schedule when returning to school in the fall.  This is to adhere to CDC social distancing guidelines.  This will allow us to safely continue the UPK program while adhering to the new guidelines.  The schedule will be as follows.

In person instruction will remain the same schedule 830-130 in our original UPK classroom.  We will introduce new concepts, focus social/emotional support, and follow our normal school schedule as much as we can. More detailed schedule and information will be provided later.

Remote learning will include an active Google Classroom, this will require an active email from all parents for communication purposes. We will also send home supplemental materials that can be worked on with older siblings, parents and families.  These materials may include, games, reading materials, worksheets, activities, exploration and any number of ideas.

We are hopeful that in this model that a partnership is formed between the families and teachers.  In order for this model to be effective and your students to make gains for their kinder years open communication, understanding and a strong partnership will be needed.  For the remote learning portion to work we must ask and  lean on you as families to help us to provide at home instruction for your student.  We will provide as many materials as we can to help.

    Questions you may have:

Note: We will be following all of the guidelines put forth in the CCS reopening plans.

    When do classes start?

Class starts for Group A September 14th and Group B September 17th

More information will be released once the class list has been confirmed.

    What is the UPK schedule?

Hybrid model- Your students will be split into 2 groups of 9. Alternating weeks the schedules will be Week 1 (AAABB) Week 2 (AABBB). With each group alternating every other week between 2 & 3 days, with Wednesday switching between the groups.  This list will be released when all registrations have been received.  If this schedule will not work for you or you wish to pull your student from the program, please let the school know as soon as possible by Monday 8/24.

Does my student need to wear a mask?

In accordance with Cambridge and CDC guidelines we are asking that all students wear masks.  We will be providing mask breaks, and students will not need to wear their masks when socially distant. You may want to think about getting your child a breakaway lanyard for their mask to keep it clean and on their person.

    Health Screening?

Your UPK student will have to complete the same health screenings that are required of all CCS students and staff.

What if my child is sick or is showing symptoms?

The requirements for a sick child are the same released by CCS.

How will the kids be socially distanced?

Each student will have their own cubby, they will have their own table space where they will complete all of their work, 6ft apart.  We will have floating centers that will be sanitized between each use.  We will still have movement, exercise, recess, music, and as much fun as we can fit in our days.

    Lunch? Snack?

We will be eating lunch in our classroom.  The school will provide lunch for those students that would like lunch.  If you would like your student to bring lunch they may bring it. We provide a snack daily, but you may send one from home if you like.

    Water Bottle?

As we cannot share our water fountain in our classroom this year, we are asking that each student please bring a reusable water bottle everyday labeled with their name.

    Bathroom? Sink?

We have a bathroom directly in our class as well as a sink.  We will be having many lessons on proper hygiene, hand washing, bathroom use and mask wearing.

    Limiting extras?

In past years we have allowed students to bring items from home to play with during free time.  This year we will be asking that students please keep all extra items to a minimum and bring no at home toys to school.  That only necessary items come to and from school.

As always please keep in mind that many of these things can change.  With regulations changing at the state level all the time we must be flexible.  We will remain diligent and we promise to do our best to keep your children safe, happy and learning in our classroom this year.  Even though it is going to be very different we are very much looking forward to getting to know you amazing littles.

All of this information and more will be released in more detail once the class list is confirmed.

    Thank you.

    All our Best,

    Mrs. Jenkins & Mrs. Bauscher

    CEO/Cambridge UPK
