Welcome to 2nd Grade!

  • Dear Parents,

I’d like to welcome you and your child to second grade and let you know in advance what you’ll need to send into school with your child in September.

Learning in my classroom is integrated, hands-on and active.  Your child will be participating in a variety of activities that are creative and project based.  For these reasons, I would like to suggest you send the following items to school in September in addition to items that were listed on the common list you received with your child’s report card.

    1)      One 8 or 12 count broad-tipped washable markers or colored pencils

    2)      A plastic pencil box or container that your child can label and fit into his or her desk

    3)      An old smock or T-shirt to wear for art class and painting projects

    4)   A low-odor dry erase marker (black or blue)

    5)   A highlighter

Please continue to label everything (including art shirts, pencil cases, backpacks, etc.) and review your child’s bus number/transportation plans with him or her before the first day of school.

I’m looking forward to a rewarding year with your child in second grade!  I’ll be sending home more information concerning schedules, routines, etc. during the first week of school.

Please enjoy your summer adventures and read some wonderful books with your child!  I’m looking forward to meeting you all in September!

                                                                                                   Sincerely,

                                                                                                   Karen Whitman
