Welcome to my new classroom website!

Let me introduce myself!  My name is Mrs. Bianca Bates.  If your child did not see me last year, many of you may remember me as the elementary reading teacher, Miss Holcomb.  This is my fourth year teaching 7-12 reading.

This year we will focus on strengthening your child's literacy skills while we work to build appropriate reading strategies that will make reading easier and more enjoyable.  We will be working on a wide variety of reading skills throughout the school year.  Some of these are linking prior knowledge to what we are reading, setting a purpose for reading, fluency and comprehension.  To strengthen these skills, we will be using many reading materials in class, including fiction and nonfiction novels and magazines.  Being around any type of print is so important and any encouragement to read at home would be beneficial as well.
