I’m writing this letter as an opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Ms. Stacy O’Brien. I will be your son/daughter’s reading teacher. This class will focus on strengthening your child’s literacy skills as we work to build appropriate reading strategies that will be helpful in making the reading process easier. We will be working on a variety of literacy skills throughout the year. Skills that we will be focusing on include: reading fluency, word rate, and comprehension. In order to build these skills, we will be using a variety of reading material in class. Materials may include novels (both fiction and non-fiction), magazine articles, and newspapers. Exposure to print is essential; it would be a great help if you could encourage reading at home.
