The purpose of this letter is twofold, first to find out if there is enough interest to offer Driver Education at Hoosic Valley (Cambridge or Greenwich) again this Summer, and second to inform you of your son’s/daughter’s benefits and responsibilities in taking Driver Education. In order to make Driver Education cost effective, we need a minimum of 16 students to enroll in the program.
The goal of this program is to equip your son/daughter with the fundamental knowledge, correct operational habits, essential skills, and the proper attitude for survival on our highways. From successful completion of this program, your son/daughter will be issued a Student Certificate of Completion (MV-285). This certificate will allow them to drive at night after they convert their class DJ license to a class D license, at age 17. Without the MV-285 certificate, they cannot drive, without a parent or guardian, between the hours of 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM until they are 18 (See a copy of the New York State Driver’s Manual for other restrictions on the DJ License). The certificate also makes possible a reduction in the cost of your added insurance premium, when applicable.
Students must be 16 years of age by the start of the course to be eligible for the Summer Session.
If offered, the program will run from June 23rd through August 18th. The classroom sessions will be held from 10:40 am - 12:10 pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with car sessions offered before and after classes. The students will select time slots for car sessions on a first come first serve basis. The students are allowed to miss two classroom and car sessions. They can also travel to Cambridge or Greenwich on other days to make up classes.
The cost of the program will depend on the number of students that sign up for the course. In the past the cost has been between $420.00 and $440.00. A $220.00 deposit is required by June 20th. Checks should be made payable to Hoosic Valley Central Schools, Greenwich Central Schools, or Cambridge Central School, whichever school you wish to enroll your child in.
The remaining payment will be due on July 21st, assuming that there is enough interest in the program. If there is not enough interest in the program, the $220.00 deposit checks will not be cashed and they will be returned to you.
If you are interested in the program, please fill out the information on the last page and return it no later than June 20th. Please include the deposit of $220.00. You may mail this form to the school you wish to enroll in, or turn the application and checks into me in Room 211 at the high school
Please see the registration form below.
