Derek Pender to speak at graduation ceremony

The district is pleased to announce that Cambridge class of 2008 graduate Derek Pender will speak at this year’s graduation ceremony on Friday, June 28 at 7:00 p.m. in school’s gymnasium.

During Derek’s high school career, he tried his best to enjoy as many extracurricular activities, events, and clubs as possible. Some of his fondest memories are growing up with his friends on the soccer field, enjoying every aspect of the Spanish club trip to Puerto Rico, participating area all-state playing the tuba, and spending some time on stage during the production of Little Shop of Horrors.

Derek attended Binghamton University where he continued his love for sports and the stage. He interned with the Binghamton Athletic Department for three years before he found his love for management consulting. He won a non-profit consulting case competition, leading a semester long software implementation for Mom’s House of the Southern Tier, in which he won a grant cash prize for Mom’s House. He graduated in 2012 with a triple major in leadership and consulting, global management, and marketing, along with a minor in history. Unfortunately, he just missed earning a theater minor by two credits.

During his senior year of college, Derek interned for Advancing Inspiration, a boutique coaching firm in Alexandria, VA. He began supporting a CEO installation initiative at a $1B healthcare organization in Washington, DC, and drove the leadership development and alignment for a Silicon Valley start-up up to and through the point of $120M sale to Intel. Over the course of six years, Derek helped Advancing Inspiration grow from $250K annual revenue to over $1M. He has coached CEOs and leadership teams of many industries including healthcare, transportation, fashion, technology, financial services, non-profits, university deans and more.

Derek left Advancing Inspiration in 2018 to join Capco, a global management consultancy serving the financial services industry. During his time at Capco he had the privilege of leading engagements and sales in risk, digital, banking, and providing overall strategy and leadership for a $5M account.

When Derek’s not coaching, he enjoys experimenting with global cuisine and culinary techniques, hiking with his dog named Galaxy, or planning his next travel adventure.
