Last night, the district hosted a Community Conversation about the proposed school budget. Individuals can view Superintendent Ducharme’s presentation from last night.
Transportation during a contingent budget
The district is returning three leased buses at the end of this school year. Individuals will vote on a proposition on May 19 to purchase four diesel buses (three new, one used). In the event the district must adopt a contingent budget, the district is not allowed to move forward with the bus purchase (even if voters approve that proposition).
As a result, the district would have a reduction of three buses and a consolidation of bus routes would be required. The district would no longer be able to provide transportation to students who live within one mile of the school. By law, transportation within one mile is not required and it would no longer be feasible with the shortage of buses. Approximately 125 students who currently receive transportation from the district would not be able to receive transportation next year under a contingent budget.
