An overview of school district mergers to take place Oct. 8

The district will host an informational overview on school district mergers on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 6 p.m. in the auditorium (pending availability). The session will be presented by the district’s legal counsel, Girvin & Ferlazzo, and is expected to last 45 minutes.

This session will outline the different types of school district mergers allowed under New York state law. Please note, this is a general, educational presentation for the Board of Education and the community to learn about the potential processes—it is not specific to our district’s demographics or a proposed merger study.

At this time, the Board of Education has not made a decision about conducting a merger study, but is committed to learning more about the process to make an informed decision in the future. Two school districts have to agree to conduct a merger study. On average, merger studies cost up to $50,000.

Board members will have the opportunity to ask questions during the presentation. Community members can submit questions during the session. Questions will be compiled, and answers will be published on the district website.

The regular Board of Education meeting will follow at 7 p.m.
