Our FFA chapter has worked tirelessly over the summer to prepare for the state contests. We had two teams participate in Livestock Judging and we had two teams compete in Nursery and Landscape.
Livestock Judging entails judging six classes of animals from sheep, goats, pigs and beef cattle, answering questions for each class, and giving two sets of reasons.
For Livestock Team One, the members consisted of Danyelle Trinkle, Vanessa Robinson, Isabella LeBarron and Jillian Robinson. Their team placed 2nd and will be competing at the Big E against top teams across the country.
Individually, Jillian Robinson placed 6th, Isabella LeBarron 11th and Danyelle Trinkle 19th.
Our second Livestock Team consisted of Phoebe Ziehm, Madison Baldwin, Ty Bentley and Quentin Bentley. With it only being their first year, the team was ranked 8th overall, with Phoebe Ziehm ranking 12th as an individual.
Nursery and Landscape is a contest with many different components. Students plant plants, have two team activities, have a math test on landscape design, multiple-choice tests, a customer service activity and have to identify over 50 plants, diseases, insects, etc.
Team One consisted of Isabella LeBarron, Kendra LeBarron, Viviana Honyoust and Camdyn Thomas. Individual ranks for them were Kendra 10th, Viviana 9th and Isabella 7th. Their team was ranked fourth overall.
Team Two ranked third overall, with team members being Jillian Robinson, Vanessa Robinson, Phoebe Ziehm and Danyelle Trinkle. Jillian was 8th, Danyelle was 12th, Vanessa was 15th and Phoebe Ziehm was 16th.
In the middle of contest prep, our chapter, along with others, worked at the FFA Building at the Washington County Fair. We had different turns to work and care for the animals, as well as answer any questions that the public may have.
