Students and district residents to participate in CCS mascot survey

At the March 14 Board of Education meeting, the Board voted to table the mascot motion on the advice of the superintendent and legal counsel in order to provide more time for district administration to review additional information that had been brought to its attention.

In response to questions and comments about the scope of the survey, and in an effort to obtain the broadest input on the selection of the mascot, the Board has decided to re-survey students, including students in grades 2-12, and survey district residents on the selection of the next Cambridge CSD mascot. Additionally, to be more inclusive of student voice, the Board has decided to add Tigers as an option on the survey. Based on an informal student survey, Tigers was a top student choice and the Board feels it is important to include it for consideration.

The three choices for consideration are Eagles, Tigers and Valley Wolves.

When students were surveyed this fall, they identified the following ideal characteristics that the new mascot should encompass:

  • Strength
  • Pride
  • Power
  • Loyalty
  • Wisdom/Knowledge

The Board believes that the three choices for consideration embody these characteristics.

The student survey will take place during class on Tuesday, March 26 and be open the next day to accommodate any students who are absent on the initial survey date.

District residents who would like to participate in the survey can do so in the High School Library on Tuesday, April 2 from 4-8 p.m. The district will provide computers for residents to complete the survey. Hard copies will be available for those unable to complete the survey electronically. Similarly to school votes, individuals must present proof of residency to participate in the survey. The survey results will be presented to the Board in the aggregate and will not reveal the identity of the respondent.

If you are unable to attend on April 2 and would like to participate, you can visit the District Office from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday now through Wednesday, April 3 (excluding March 29).

The survey results will be shared with the Board of Education and the option with the most votes will be advanced to the Board for its consideration and adoption as the next CCS mascot.
