Voters reject 2026-27 school budget and other propositions; public library approved; Burr and Hamilton elected to the Board of Education

On Tuesday, May 19, Cambridge CSD residents rejected the district’s $28.1 million budget proposal for 2026-27 by a tally of 584 no votes to 554 yes votes.

By a vote of 688 to 439, voters approved the public library proposition.

By a vote of 566 to 546, voters rejected a proposition to purchase up to four diesel buses and one van.

By a vote of 572 to 554, voters rejected a proposition to increase the transportation capital reserve fund.

In the Board of Education election, Rachel Burr (663 votes) and Joseph Hamilton (630 votes) were elected to three-year terms. Ted Flint received 455 votes.

“I know this outcome brings questions and concerns about what comes next,” said Superintendent Ducharme. “We are already working on a revised budget to present to the community. We have executed significant budget reductions to get to this point, and we will build upon those efficiencies. We are fully committed to delivering a revised budget that respects our taxpayers’ input while fiercely minimizing the impact on our students’ educational experiences.”

The Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, May 26 at 7 p.m. in the High School Library. The second Budget Hearing will take place on Tuesday, June 9 at 6 p.m. in the High School Library. The Budget Revote will take place on Tuesday, June 16 from 12-8 p.m. The location of the revote is to be determined.
