Voters reject 2026-27 school budget

On Tuesday, June 16, Cambridge CSD residents rejected the district’s $27.6 million budget proposal for 2026-27 by a tally of 648 yes votes to 456 no votes (58.7%). The proposal failed to reach the required 60% supermajority approval.

By a vote of 604 to 497, voters approved a proposition to purchase up to four diesel buses and one van. However, the district cannot purchase the vehicles because the budget proposition was defeated.

By a vote of 606 to 494, voters approved a proposition to increase the transportation capital reserve fund.

“We would like to thank everyone for voting today,” said Superintendent Ducharme. “We have already laid the groundwork to implement a contingency budget if one were necessary. We will finalize the contingency budget and continue to build upon any efficiencies that are available. Our goal is to minimize the impact on our students’ educational experiences.”
