On Thursday, July 16, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) honored the 2025-2026 Schools of Distinction and Excellence. Cambridge Jr./Sr. High School was named a School of Excellence.
The designation is awarded to schools that apply and have at least 75% of their varsity teams earn the Scholar-Athlete Team Award during their respective sports seasons.
“Being named a NYSPHSAA School of Excellence is a true testament to the dedication, discipline and hard work of our student-athletes,” said Andrew Lapitsky, Cambridge Athletic Director. “At Cambridge, we pride ourselves on pursuing excellence both academically and athletically. This recognition reflects the incredible support of our teachers, coaches, families and community, who ensure our students thrive in every arena.”
NYSPHSAA’s goal is to celebrate schools that exemplify a commitment to success in the classroom while balancing the demands of athletic participation. This honor showcases the dedication, discipline and excellence demonstrated by students and school communities across the state.
“The commitment demonstrated by our member schools to academic excellence continues to be one of the greatest strengths of educational-based athletics,” said Dr. Robert Zayas, NYSPHSAA Executive Director. “These awards recognize entire school communities that value success in the classroom as much as success in competition.”
237 schools earned a 2025-26 School of Excellence designation.
